Outside of demo mode, after you have completed the training, you will be granted access to the streets and with this you will be able to witness first hand the more intricate complexities of the game, the Corporations. Without alteration, the game starts out with around 15 companies for you to interact with. These companies range in all types; from video game designers to hard drive manufactures, and they all have a strong desire to dominate their industry; however, only few will after you have chosen your own personal affiliations. Street hacker can support up to 40 companies. To obtain additional ones you can use the mission designer to make up your own or go online to http://downloads.streethacker.com to collect more.

Companies & Affiliations |

Each company has an "affiliation" or relationship with every other company and it need not be a good one; In fact, companies may not even agree on their mutual status. By default most companies are neutral with each other and slightly aggressive with others in their identical sector. Company affiliations are altered every time a mission is completed or expired. If you successfully attack company A, the TARGET, then they will lower their friendly status towards company B, the FUNDER. If company C-Z, an OUTSIDER, is friendly with the TARGET, or hateful of the TARGET, they will also alter their affiliation accordingly.
Missions generally originate with both companies residing in the same sector. Occasionally other companies, companies C-Z, attempting to increased their relationship with the TARGET will launch a counter attack on their behalf against the FUNDER.

How Companies Operate |

Corporate capital is primarily what drives a company. By default all game companies start with the same lump sum of 500 million. The more capital a company has determines how often they will be able to afford to create a mission. Successful missions will re-allocate funding in the TARGET companies sector based on the mission intensity. Lost funds will be equally distributed to all other companies in that sector which reinforces why companies usually attack others in the same sector. If a companies assets drop lower than 15 million, the company will declare bankruptcy. Once a company is bankrupt it is gone for good and will not interact anymore on that players account.

After you have finished training, the streets will be accessible. If you go down there you will be able to talk with company agents. Each company has 3 agents spread out across the various cities so that you can still accept their missions even if your not in the city they are based out of. Agents can have multiple missions for you to select from. If the mission is more challenging then it is likely they will require an existing and trustworthy relationship before they give it to you. In addition, the more a company likes you the more they will offer when you take their missions.

The best ones have an easy rating and good payoff. Sometimes companies will release a difficult mission but be to stingy to pay for it. This happens when they want you to destroy another companies server, but only want to give you $50 to do it. These should be easy to avoid; however, they may also provide a cakewalk of a mission and well overpay for it. Experience will grant you greater insight.

Most missions ask only a few basic requirements be met. Most revolve around Mission Critical Files, MCFiles, and the rest involve server status integrities. Destroy, Steal, Replace, Modify, and combinations of these types are all a mission will require for MCFiles. Harder missions may require multiple files be dealt with in this fashion. Missions involving server statuses will only ever ask for the server to be destroyed, taken offline, or either.
AS A SIDE NOTE: Although the destroyed mission type pays the most and is the most influential when re-distributing corporate funding, the taken offline type is probably the hardest to pull off. Taken offline alone means there server needs shut-down permanently until admin interference and does not mean with the permanence of being destroyed. There are very few ways to do this, and the best way is to use multiple corruptor virii. The corruptor essentially will damage and destroy all of the system files so that the system cannot maintain operational status. More Operating Systems Info.
